Youth Council

Youth Council Mission Statement

Our mission as the Sand Creek Massacre Foundation Youth Council is to learn and preserve the culture and traditions of the Cheyenne and Arapaho people and heal from the atrocities our ancestors faced, while providing opportunities for descendant youth to engage in reconnection and fellowship. We strive to educate the general public about the Sand Creek Massacre, raise awareness about issues affecting Native Americans and other minorities, and foster harmonious cooperation among all peoples. As youth leaders, we aim to heal generational trauma, develop effective youth leadership, improve public education and job training, and give insight into the contemporary world. We make recommendations for the use of the foundation’s funds, identify and champion practices for youth talent development, engage youth in decision-making, and advise on career-connected learning opportunities. Additionally, we facilitate community relationships and actions, coordinate service projects, and protect cultural traditions.
